MIRPURKHAS, Feb 6: Police got freed nine members of a family including five women from illegal confinement on the orders of district and sessions judge of Umerkot on Wednesday.

The family was detained by a landlord Niaz Kapri at his lands in the village that carried his own name, Niaz Kapri village, in Kunri taluka.

The judge directed the SHO of Kunri to raid the landlord’s property, release the detainees and produce them in court after Maro Solangi, a peasant, filed an application in court requesting release of his family.

The judge also issued a notice to the landlord asking him to appear in court on Wednesday.

A heavy contingent of police recovered Maro’s wife, Mehnaz, daughters Rukhsana, Zahida, Hajira, sons, Mir Mohammad, Noor Mohammad, Babu, Raza Mohammad and his wife Sanjha and SHO Qadir Bux Memon produced them in court.

The judge after going through necessary legal procedure allowed them to go with Maro.

The SHO said that the landlord did not appear in court despite getting court notice.

COPS RELEASED: Nine former police officials who were detained in the district prison Mirpurkhas since past 20 months were released on bail on Wednesday.

Former inspector Abid Kaimkhani, former sub-inspectors Syed Ameer Azam, Syed Raza Mohammad Shah, Amin Mari, Mustafa Thebo, head-constable Zulfiqar Bhatti, constables Adam Baloch, Mohammad Yousuf and Rehmatullah were the policemen.

A complainant, Naeem Arain, had accused them that they had kidnapped and kept him in illegal confinement and had subjected him to torture.

The policemen were arrested by the Satellite town police.

A few days ago, the second additional sessions court Mirpurkhas granted them bail.

After a departmental inquiry, the then DIG of Mirpurkhas, Rana Saleemullah Khan, had dismissed them.

ROBBERY: Dacoits robbed a Hyderabad-bound passenger coach near Sufi Faqeer area on Umerkot-Mirpurkhas road on Wednesday.

Al-Rahim coach was going to Hyderabad from Chhore when the five robbers travelling in the same coach held the driver hostage and looted thousands of rupees in cash, gold ornaments, wrist watches, cellphones etc. from passengers.

No case was registered till filing of this report.

ACCIDENT: A tractor driver was killed in an accident on Digri Mirpurkhas road near Rasool Bux Dal village on Tuesday.

The tractor went out of the driver’s control and fell into a deep ditch killing Shahnawaz Dal, 30, on the spot.
