RAWALPINDI, Feb 5: The suicide bomber who rammed his motorcycle into a minibus carrying trainees of the Armed Forces Post-Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) had hit the vehicle head-on and his appearance suggested he hailed from one of the Central Asian states, a source quoted an injured man as saying.

The source said the registration number of the motorcycle had been traced to Rawalpindi. The owner of the motorcycle was taken into custody and being interrogated.

“Yes, the registration number of the motorcycle — believed to be that of the bomber’s — has been traced. It had been registered in Rawalpindi and its make was Honda 125 CC. However, it is yet to be established whether the owner was using it or somebody else,” the source said.

He said investigation teams had been dispatched to different towns.

Thirteen people were on board the bus when it left the army mess for R.A. Bazaar road at 7.26 am.

Of the 13, six male doctors were of the major rank and three were colonels.

Three of the injured victims — lady doctor Captain Samia, Lt-Col Dr Khizar Iqbal Mufti and Dr Major Qamar — were in critical condition, according to hospital sources.

One leg of the critically injured lady doctor was amputated and she also lost an eyeball.
