Wang sets world record

PARIS, Feb 4: China’s Wang Meng set a new 500m world record with 43.286sec during the fifth stage of the short track World Cup in Quebec on Sunday.

Olympic 2006 champion Wang cut 0.3sec off the old record of 43.671sec set on October 19 2001 at Calgary, Canada, by Bulgaria’s Evgenia Radanova.

Wang, who also won the 1000m silver medal and the bronze in the 1500m at the 2004 Turin Olympics, is unbeaten this season over 500m.—AFP
