KARACHI, Feb 3: An alleged militant wounded in last week’s Shah Latif Town police encounter died on Sunday, raising the death toll of the suspects belonging to the banned outfit to four.

Tayyab Dad, who was in his early 30s, died in the surgical ward of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after struggling for life under ventilator for six days, officials said. They said the injured was brought from Landhi along with his three accomplices, Abdullah, Ibrahim and Abrar Pathan, allegedly associated with the outlawed Jundullah militant outfit, on Tuesday night.

“He died early Sunday morning and the police authorities were formally informed about his death,” an official said, adding that the body was about to be handed over to his relatives under the supervision of police.

After fierce clashes with police in Shah Latif Town and Landhi 89 area, Tayyab Dad was seriously wounded when a hand grenade exploded in the hands of his partner Abdullah, who died on the spot.

The kingpin of the group, Qasim Toori, and Abid Ali were arrested following the two encounters while the seriously injured, Tayyab Dad, was shifted to hospital along with the bodies of his three accomplices, Abdullah, Ibrahim and Abrar Pathan. Qasim Toori and Abid Ali were later remanded in police custody till February 7. The condition of Tayyab Dad was stated to be serious.

With the head money of Rs0.5 million, the militant was booked in five different cases, including the attack on corps commander’s convoy in Clifton in 2004, which was allegedly executed by Jundullah.
