MIRPURKHAS, Feb 2: The senior vice-chairman of the People’s Party, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, has said that the Central Executive Committee of the party will decide the PPP’s candidate for premiership.

Addressing a press conference at the Jilani House here on Saturday, he expressed the confidence that the PPP would form the federal and provincial governments after winning the next elections with the support of the masses.In reply to a question about a reported statement of Senator Babar Awan mentioning PPP co-chairman Mr Asif Zardari’s name as the PPP’s candidate for the next prime minister, Mr Fahim said “there is no importance of his [Awan’s] statement and after winning elections, the Central Executive Committee of the PPP would decide the candidate for the prime minister’s slot.”

He termed the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto as a big tragedy which had caused irreparable loss to the PPP.

He said they had called upon the government to conduct a UN-led probe into the murder otherwise the PPP itself would take the initiative after coming to power.

The Makhdoom said the PPP was taking part in elections to complete the mission of its leader and for the restoration of democracy for which she had sacrificed her life.

He said the family matters of the Bhuttos would be resolved at the family level. He said there were no differences in the party.
