MIRPURKHAS, April 9: Anwar Ahmed Zai, additional secretary education, has urged teachers to improve education standard and prepare intelligent students for the development of the country.

He was speaking at the seminar held here on Tuesday here under the aegis of the All Sindh Mosque (oriental) School Teachers (MATA), Mirpurkhas, at the Cultural Hall.

He said that there were about 38,800 primary schools in Sindh, of which 9,000 were shelterless. He added that about 2,081 schools were lying closed in the province.

He disclosed that 2001 scholarships to the students of class 6th to 8th were awarded.

Mr Zai said that under the Tawana Pakistan Scheme, about 250 schools were selected where students would be provided food nutrition and medical facilities with the cooperation of the Agha Khan Foundation.

Earlier, Hussain Bux Khamesani, president MATA Mirpurkhas, and others also spoke.

EDO: The EDO (health), Mirpurkhas, Dr Illahi Bux Soomro, has sought the comments from Dr Farooq Ibrahim, eye surgeon, Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, on the complaints of an affected person.

Lal Mohammad Khaskheli had complained that the surgeon did not fix lens in his eye after charging fee and did not treat him properly as a result of which he was feeling pain in his eyes.

HAND PUMPS: The district mobilizing officer, NRSP, Mirpurkhas, Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar, has said that over 100 hand pumps were installed in the different villages of the district.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that a number of development schemes worth millions of rupees were being run in the district under the supervision of community organizations.

SUSPENSION: The sub-divisional officer, Hesco, Umerkot, Rukhsar Qureshi, and meter reader Mohammad Khan, have been placed under suspension on charge of negligence of their duties.

The action was taken by the Hesco chief during his surprise visit to their areas concerned a few days ago.

ARRESTED: Shadi Palli police have arrested a proclaimed offender, Shah Mohammad Shar, from taluka Kot Ghulam Mohammad on Tuesday.

The accused was wanted in a case registered under section 11/16 of the ZHO case.
