HYDERABAD, April 9: The Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Junejo group) staged a protest rally in Moro the other day against the construction of greater Thal canal.
After marching through the main bazaar, the rally terminated at the jail road chowk.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the JSM, Abdul Khaliq Junejo, said that Punjab was taking away Sindh’s share of water and it was trying to take over the control of the remaining water through the construction of greater Thal canal.
He said that the agriculture of Sindh had been totally destroyed and unemployment was rampant in the rural areas.
He said that on the other hand, immigrants were being rehabilitated in the urban areas, who had taken over the control of mills and factories and had also usurped other sources of livelihood.
He said that the outsiders had also been counted in the census which had resulted in the increase of seats of Karachi.
Later, the central executive committee of the JSM, at a meeting held at Qaim Jatoi goth, rejected the proposed presidential referendum.
AWAMI TEHRIK: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has pledged to fight unto death till Sindh was given its due share of water.
He warned the waderas and politicians that if they remained quiet at such a crucial movement, the people of Sindh would die of hunger and thirst.
He was speaking at the Water and Agriculture Conference at Tando Bago (Badin) on Monday.
Abrar Kazi said that the Awami Tehrik would not only struggle for the waters of river Indus but would also fight for taking back its usurped resources.
