ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday directed to take short, medium and long-term measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of oil, gas and energy in the country.

He was chairing a high-level meeting, which reviewed the situation regarding oil, gas and energy supplies. The president further directed that all available resources should be utilised for the production of gas and energy, with all possible measures for the conservation of gas and energy.

The president said gas is a precious natural resource and it should be used with utmost care.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ahsanullah Khan apprised the meeting of the measures being taken to improve the gas supply and said the process of importing LPG super tankers had already been initiated.

He said the government was cognizant of the future energy needs and the work on the exploration of gas was being expanded.

The minister further informed that the pace of work on Thar coal project was being accelerated, adding that, the possibility of producing gas from coal would also be reviewed.

Besides, Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ahsanullah Khan, the meeting was attended by senior officials of the relevant ministries and departments.—APP
