TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 26: The Gojra Sadar police have registered a case against three people, including a nurse, for carrying out illegal abortion of an unmarried girl who also lost her life during the exercise.

Sharif Khokhar, a labourer of Chak 363-JB, complained to the police that his 18-year-old daughter, Asma, a household girl, became pregnant as a result of having an affair with an unidentified man.

He said his bother, Abdul Hameed, and sister-in-law Abida Bibi advised him to get Asma’s three-month pregnancy aborted, but he did not agree.

However, he said, his brother and the sister-in-law took Asma to a quack nurse, Najma, in Chak 314-JB who allegedly administered wrong medicines and she lost her life during the abortion on Friday morning.

The duty officer told Dawn that the police had registered an FIR (43 of 2008) under Section 338-C (Isqat-i-Janin) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Najma, Abdul Hameed and Abida Bibi. However, no arrest has been made so far.
