PESHAWAR, Jan 25: A suspected kidnapper of a child was killed in a shootout with police in the Sarband police area on Friday. Two of his accomplices escaped and the child was recovered.

Speaking at a press conference at Police Lines, SSP (operations) Syed Imtiaz Shah said Hamza Adeel, whose father Mohammad Adeel was said to be a cloth merchant, had been kidnapped from the Dil Jan Plaza, Ayub Lane, Saddar Road in Peshawar.

The boy was accompanied by his 12-year-old cousin who informed his elders about the kidnapping.

After receiving a complaint on helpline 15, police chased the car of the accused which was found in front of a house, reportedly owned by Sherin Afridi, in Sarband.

Mr Shah said as the three suspected kidnappers saw police they started firing and in the exchange of fire, one of them was killed.
