NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Jan 24: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) staged a procession and a demonstration in Kandiaro on Thursday in protest against police for failing to make the highways safe for passengers.

The procession led by Hafiz Sikandar Depar, Moulana Mohammad Ramzan Khaskheli and Ayoub Pirzado started from Jamia Masjid and turned into a demonstration when it reached the press club.

The party leaders complained about deteriorating law and order in the district and said that eight bandits snatched a digital camera and cash from Mufti Mohammad Idrees Soomro and deprived other passengers of a Sukkur-bound coach of 45 mobile phones, Rs150,000 cash and other valuable belongings near Bhirya on the National Highway on Wednesday.

Police neither arrested the robbers, nor recovered the looted property nor even bothered to lodge a report of the crime, they said, demanding that the robbers be arrested immediately.

The police rejected their claim and said that nobody had so far come to them to lodge an FIR about the incident.
