BADIN, Jan 22: The Zarai Taraqiati Bank, implementing the president’s directives, has written off loans of up to Rs100,000 in Badin, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts.

President Pervez Musharraf had announced the relief package for rain-hit districts during his visit to Naukot last year.

The farmers of three districts could not get the relief due to bureaucracy’s lack of interest. However, Senator Bibi Yasmeen Shah recently apprised the caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro of the injustice being meted out to the people of calamity-hit areas.

Officials at the ZTB Badin confirmed of receiving a circular in this regard.

TEACHER KILLED: A primary teacher was axed to death in school by one of his relatives on Tuesday.

Reports said Mubarak Soomro was taking class at the Government Prime School Ayub Soomro within the jurisdiction of Talhar Police Station on Tuesday when accused Allah Rakhio alias Mitho Soomro entered the classroom and killed him with an axe on spot. The accused was said to be close relative of the deceased.

The school children raised hue and cry which attracted villagers who rushed to the scene but the killer fled.

Talhar police arrested the accused and registered an FIR.
