GUJRANWALA, Jan 21: The PML-Q central leadership and parliamentary board on Monday allowed Imtiaz Ahmad Bhutta to contest election on NA-96 (Gujranwala-II) constituency after withdrawing decision of seat adjustment with JUI-F.

It was learnt that the PML-Q had made seat adjustment with JUI-F candidate Maulana Qazi Hameedullah some fortnight back.

Mr Bhutta confirmed that the local party leadership and the district organization, including all aspirants of national and provincial assemblies, had urged the party leadership through a unanimous resolution to allow him to contest the election.

SUMMONED: District Returning Officer Nazir Ahmad Ganjana issued a notice to another SHO and DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti to appear before court on Wednesday (tomorrow) in connection with a complaint regarding harassing of petitioner’s voters.

Waqas Haider, an independent candidate for PP-97, alleged in his petition that PML-Q candidate and former MPA Nasir Cheema got posted his relative SHO at Ladheywala Warraich police station who was harassing his voters.

The court has already issued warning to SHOs of Kamoki, Wahando and Ferozewala in similar petitions.

TRAINING: The four-day second phase of training for presiding officers organized by the Election Commission of Pakistan and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in relation to the upcoming general election would commence from Wednesday (tomorrow).

This was stated by district training coordinator Ghulam Mustafa Judga here on Monday.

He said the training of some 40 presiding officers of NA-95 and 235 of NA-98 would be held on Wednesday at the Government Boys High School and Government Girls High School, Nizamabad (Wazirabad), respectively.

While training of 244 presiding officers of NA-96 and NA-99 would be held on Jan 24 at the Government Jamia High School and 273 presiding officers of NA-97 and NA-100 would be trained at Government Comprehensive High School on Jan 25.

He said 73 presiding officers of NA-95 and 179 of NA-101 would be provided training at the Government Jamia School on Jan 26.

OBSERVED: Youm-i-Ashur was observed amid tight security throughout the district with personnel of army, rangers and police guarded the Zuljinnah processions.

Reports said that DCO Ather Hussain Sayal, DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti and senior officers of rangers and army visited almost all Imambargahs and Zuljinnah routes.
