OKARA, Jan 18: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has given the party ticket for NA-144 (Okara-II) to Chaudhry Sajjadul Hasan after rejection of nomination papers of a candidate fielded by the party earlier.

Hasan was a covering candidate for PPP ticket holder Chaudhry Muhammad Arif in this constituency. A returning officer rejected Arif’s nomination papers. He moved a petition to the Supreme Court against the returning officer’s decision, but his petition was rejected on Jan 10. Finally, the party gave its ticket to Hasan who will now face Pakistan Muslim League’s Rao Sikandar Iqbal.

SECURITY: Measures have been taken across the district to maintain law and order on Youm-e-Ashur.

District Police Officer Mirza Faran Baig told the district peace committee at a meeting here on Friday that security cameras would be installed and personnel of law enforcement agencies would be deployed on the routes of Muharram processions. The meeting, with caretaker Housing Minister Mian Shafqat Ali in the chair, was told that hospital staff, volunteers and the local administration had been put on high alert to deal with any emergency.
