SHIKARPUR, Jan 18: Three kidnapped people were freed from clutches of kidnappers on Thursday night after a police action.

Shikarpur DPO Mansoor Mughal at a press conference on Friday said that two weeks ago, five wagon passengers including Master Wazir Ali, Shankar Lal, Raj Kumar, Jaipal and Babu Mal were kidnapped from Shikarpur-Jacobabad road in the jurisdiction of Sultankot police.

He said the kidnappers were shifting the hostages from Shikarpur to some other place during the night.

A police party led by the DSP headquarters, Sultankot SPO and the SHO cordoned off the area and intercepted their vehicles near Gulab Malgani Laro, district Jacobabad, where a gun battle started between them.

The kidnappers opened fire at police while the police also retaliated. The police recovered three kidnapped people identified as Shankar Lal and Raj Kumar of Jacobabad and Master Wazir Ali Mahar of Shikarpur.

Police claimed to have recovered a Kalashnikov and ammunition from the place.

Two others, Jaipal and Babu Mal, were still in clutches of the dacoits.

G.M. Syed: The 104th birth anniversary of Jeay Sindh Tehrik founder G.M. Syed was celebrated by writers, poets and political workers here on Thursday night.

The gathering was arranged by a young poet, Zubair Soomro, while Junaid Ahmed Soomro, the grandson of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro, was the chief guest on the occasion.

The participants paid rich tribute to G.M. Syed for his political and nationalist services and highlighted his contribution and struggle for the people of Sindh.

JSQM leader Sattar Kaladi, Zia Shahid, Adeel Mahar, Pervez Abro and Lala Zahid Pathan spoke on the occasion and called people of Sindh to follow the message of G.M. Syed to continue their struggles for restoration of usurped rights of Sindhis.
