HYDERABAD, Jan 18: A woman’s bid to kidnap a 34-day-old boy from the Civil Hospital here was foiled on Friday evening.

The woman, identified as Zarina, has been handed over to the police, who said that she was making conflicting statements.

She told police that she belonged to Tandojam and lived in Tando Agha.

According to hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Waseem Sheikh, the woman was spotted by Dr Ambreen, a house officer, and Dr Suresh in the nursery of the hospital’s paediatrics ward. They had called the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Khan Mohammad Leghari, who had called the police. He said that the boy’s mother had brought him for treatment.

The baby, Ismail son of Abdul Sattar, was born to Ms Khursheed Begum, a resident of Paretabad.

It was second such incident. A two-day old girl was kidnapped from the Civil Hospital on Oct 28. The girl was later recovered by the police. Three women were arrested in the case.

The police have not yet recovered a girl, Dua, who was kidnapped when she was only three-day old. She was kidnapped from the Shah Bhittai Hospital Latifabad on Aug 19. The women who had kidnapped her had been arrested.
