LEIAH, April 6: The killers of five members of a family who were axed to death at Chak 280/TDA on Tuesday night gave themselves up to police on Saturday through a local lumberdar.

After killing Bhawal Sher, his wife Zareen, daughters Nazia, Asia and son Shahid Iqbal, they escaped from the scene.

The police raided on different spots to arrest them without any success. On Saturday morning, outlaws Muhammad Nasir, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Riaz surrendered to police through area lumberdar Iftikhar Ahmad. Later, they were brought to court for remand. The outlaws are close relatives of the slain people.

In their statements to police, the arrested killers alleged that Nazia and her mother were involved in immoral activities. They had once and again admonished them not to indulge in such activities, but to no avail.

Some area people however claimed that Nazia and her mother were noble women, and the real cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained.
