HYDERABAD, Jan 17: The Liaquat University Hospital’s inquiry committee cleared doctors of charges of negligence during treatment of a government school student, Mudassar, on Thursday and observed that the boy was treated properly at hospital and he died due to severe septicaemia (blood poisoning).

A four-paragraph inquiry report, has been submitted by the five-member committee to the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Mohammad Waseem Shaikh, stated that members of the committee were of unanimous opinion that the boy was ‘managed well’ in both the units (surgical and paediatrics) of the hospital. He died due to severe septicaemia, it said.

The committee observed that chid was hospitalised on Nov 21, in the surgical emergency unit-III as a case of intestinal obstruction where he underwent surgical intervention on November 24 for band obstruction. He underwent a second operation on Dec 2 and ileostomy was performed and was discharged on Dec 12.

However, the report overlooked that whether the intestinal obstruction for which the boy was operated upon twice was caused due to the punishment at school.

It overlooked the fact that the LUH medical superintendent had stated that if the boy suffered from intestinal obstruction, the problem could have been aggravated by the kind of punishment claimed by his family.

“Yes, there is a possibility that as per family’s claim the sit ups given to Mudassar could have aggravate his problem of intestinal obstruction for which he was later operated upon,” the MS said.

He, however, added that as far as hospital was concerned he was given proper treatment there.
