Limbs of suicide bomber match

Published January 18, 2008

LAHORE, Jan 17: The DNA test of various limbs, which were collected from the suicide blast site near GPO Chowk on Jan 10, has matched all parts of the bomber.

However, the investigation police are still clueless about the bomber’s identity, his origin and possible association with any militant group.

A seven-member investigation team of the capital city police confirmed finalisation of a test report by the Centre of Excellence for Molecular Biology, a department of the Punjab University, on Thursday.

“The report confirms that hair, teeth, nails, blood and head, which was reconstructed with plastic surgery, are of the suicide bomber. But his identification, origin and group identification is still a mystery and there is no clue so far,” DIG (Investigation) Chaudhry Tassaduq Husain, who is heading the investigation team, told Dawn.

He said reports of the Forensic Science Laboratory about explosives and other tests and the National Database and Registration Authority about identification of finger tip recovered from the spot had yet to be arrived.

Meanwhile, sources close to the investigation team told Dawn that blood samples of those suspected people, who were being interrogated in connection with the suicide blast, had been sent for matching but there was no headway so far.

“After matching of body parts of suicide bomber, next task is to establish his link with his group fellows and family but so far no blood match is there,” they said.
