MITHI: Tharis demand gas supply

Published January 17, 2008

MITHI, Jan 16: The people of Thar have demanded of the government to provide gas facility to the region on an urgent basis. They expressed serious concern at the chopping of trees and bushes on a large scale by poor communities which was leading to environmental degradation.

Talking to Dawn, Tharparkar District Naib Nazim Abdul Karim Rahimoon, Rajoro Union Council Nazim Abdul Subhan Sodho, councillor Genaram and others pointed out that the demand for gas was not something new as they had been demanding it for the last many years.

They said that the one-and-a-half-million population of the rain-fed belt needed gas badly.

The Nazims and councillors urged the government to provide gas to Thar on an urgent basis.
