Govt may revive flour supply system

LAHORE, Jan 15: The Punjab government may revive the flour supply system through dealers besides running its sale points initially in Lahore and Sheikhupura on Wednesday.

A hint to this effect was given after a meeting on the flour crisis that was presided over by Chief Secretary Salman Siddique here on Tuesday night.

Sources said the chief secretary would preside over a meeting of the owners of all 34 flourmills in Lahore and those in Sheikhupura to finalise the idea on Wednesday. He would also discuss the issue with flour dealers of the two cities in a separate meeting later.

The sources said if the dealer system was revived, the government would provide additional wheat to millers so that it could also get flour for its sale points set up to overcome the crisis. The government would launch the system in other cities after assessing its results in Lahore and Sheikhupura, the sources added.
