ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: Opposition members on Monday submitted two adjournment motions before the Senate Secretariat seeking debates on the prevailing power crisis in the country.

According to secretary parliamentary affairs of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Izhar Amrohvi, the motions have been submitted under Rule 74 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 1988 and these have been signed by opposition senators belonging to the PPP, Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), Awami National Party (ANP) and Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal (MMA).

Mr Amrohvi told Dawn that the opposition senators had filed the motions keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the people of Pakistan due to the ongoing electricity loadshedding and low pressure of natural gas.

In their motion, the opposition senators state: “The pressure of natural gas in Pakistan has reduced so much that even daily cooking in houses has been affected and the people are very much disturbed as they cannot cook even the meals of the day.”

The other motion states: “Loadshedding of electricity in the country has created havoc and disturbed the life of the people of Pakistan.” Loadshedding has also deteriorated the industries of Pakistan and production of items. It needs discussion on the floor of the House adjourning the business of the Senate, it said. The motions have been signed by Opposition Leader Raza Rabbani, Enver Baig, Dr Babar Awan, Farooq Naek, Dr Safdar Abbasi and Sardar Latif Khan Khosa of the PPP, Prof Khurshid Ahmad of the MMA, Ishaq Dar of the PML-N and Ilyas Ahmad Bilour of the ANP.
