LAHORE, Jan 13: Mysterious disappearance of a constable injured in GPO blast from the Mayo Hospital created panic among police ranks on Sunday.

A hospital source told Dawn that Constable Iftikhar Yousaf who had sustained injuries in Jan 10 blast outside the Lahore High Court left for his native town Jia Musa on Saturday when doctors declared him fit.

Iftikhar, however, did not bother to inform his seniors about his departure from the hospital, the source said, adding that following his sudden disappearance it was rumoured that another blast injured had expired and the body was taken away by unknown people.

Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Fayyaz Ranjha told Dawn that it was a mistake on the part of Iftikhar who should have informed his colleagues about his recovery. He confirmed that Iftikhar was discharged ‘officially’ and the hospital had its medical record. He said on Sunday Iftikhar made a call to his colleagues and informed them about his well being.
