SKARDU, Jan 11: The district administration has taken foolproof security measures for Muharram.

Presiding over a meeting the deputy commissioner, Zark Mirza said the district administration had asked all religious scholars of various schools of thought, politicians, notables of the area and journalists to help maintain brotherhood, peace and harmony among people.

The meeting was held to review security measures in the district, which was attended by SSP Skardu Wazir Mohammad Ali, assistant commissioners of all sub-divisions of Skardu, police officers and notables of the city and mediamen.

However, keeping in view the increasing terrorist attacks in the country, the district administration has made extraordinary security arrangement in the district, Zark Mirza said.

He also asked people to keep an eye on suspected persons and in case any unusual activity, inform the police and administration so that prompt action could be taken.

He said there was no shortage of flour in Skardu, however, transportation of atta had been banned from Skardu to other districts.

He said section 144 had been imposed in the district from January 1 to March 10. According to which exposure and carrying of arms would be banned in the jurisdiction of Skardu subdivision.

However, military, paramilitary forces, police personals that are performing their professional duties would be exempted. Publishing or holding of posters, pamphlets, and placards that caused sectarian conflict would also be banned.

SSP Wazir Mohammad Ali said that police force was capable of dealing with any untoward incident.

He said control rooms had been set up in coordination with the public.

The deputy commissioner’s office would be the main control room of the district while the offices of assistant commissioners of the three subdivisions of Skardu would also work as sub-control rooms.

He said those people would not be allowed to enter in the district that have no identity cards and they would be sent back from the Kachura checkposts.
