KARACHI, Jan 10: The Sindh government has decided to provide ‘foolproof security’ to three top leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party.

The decision was taken in the light of a letter sent by the federal government to all provinces after secret agencies disclosed threats to the leaders’ lives.

According to sources close to the home department, the leaders mentioned in the letter are: PPP’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Faheem and Chaudhry Atizaz Ahsan, who is also president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Mr Ahsan is at present under house arrest. In the wake of reports about potential threats, security has been tightened around his residence.

Similarly, since Makhdoom Amin Faheem was named the PPP’s candidate for the post of prime minister, if the party wins a majority in the elections his life would be in danger and the government has directed all provincial governments to provide him ‘VVIP security’.

The provincial governments were warned against lapses in this connection.

The government has taken the decision to allay the PPP high command’s fears and to address their complaints about the government’s failure to provide adequate security to their leader Benazir Bhutto.
