FAISALABAD, Jan 6: The Christian community on Sunday organised special prayers to pay homage to slain Pakistan People’s Party chairperson and former premier Benazir Bhutto at the Cathedral Church, Railway Road.
The ceremony, organised by the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA), was also addressed by Faisalabad Bishop Joseph Coots.
A large number of Christians and PPP election candidates, including former provincial minister Badruddin Chaudhry, Rana Aftab Ahmed, Ijaz Virk, Mehr Abdul Rasheed, Faizullah Kamoka, Tariq Habib and others attended the ceremony.
Terming the slain Ms Bhutto an icon of solidarity of the country, speakers said she was the voice of the poor and intended to raise their living standard by providing them basic necessities of life.
They said she sacrificed her life for democracy in the country. They vowed to continue the struggle for betterment of the country.
Speakers and participants also prayed for stability of the country and the departed soul.
