KARACHI, Jan 6: A desperate outlaw committed suicide instead of surrendering to the police following a shootout in Orangi Town on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party of Site Town raided an abandoned warehouse in Orangi Town where a group of outlaws were sheltering, SP Site Athar Rasheed Butt said. According to him, the suspects started firing at the police when they realized that they had been encircled.

A hardened criminal identified as Tanveer alias Tanveera, wanted in nine cases including an encounter against the CID and several other cases registered against him at the Pirabad and Orangi Town police stations, shot himself in the head when he realized that there was no way out for him, the SP Site said.

The rest of his accomplices, numbering 10, gave themselves up to the police. Some of the suspects were said to be Afghanis while others belonged to Waziristan. —Staff Reporter
