ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: The Pakistan People’s Party has expressed concern over lack of security arrangements for its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and demanded that foolproof security arrangements should be made for him.

PPP central executive committee member Rehman Malik has sent a letter to Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah, stating: “We would like to inform you that Mr Zardari is now facing serious security threat from various groups/extremist groups, which is already in your notice.”

He said a high level of security was needed to ensure safety of Mr Zardari’s life in Naudero House, Larkana.

“Kindly arrange the demanded foolproof security arrangements to ensure Mr Zardari’s physical protection,” he said.

Mr Shah was not available for his comments but a man who picked his cell phone and introduced himself as the official’s personal secretary said: “We have received no such letter.”

Meanwhile, Senator Latif Khosa and PPP coordinator Nazir Dhoki appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, the European Union, the Commonwealth and democratic forces in the country to take notice of victimisation of the party’s workers by the government.
