LAHORE, Jan 2: In a card of six races scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, only one favourite and one joint favourite could oblige the punters. The most impressive winner of the day was the chestnut filly Well Done, who completed a hat-trick of victories by winning the supporting and fifth race on the card.

Owned by K.A. Ahmad and trained by Haji Fazal Hadi, the filly beat fellow filly Little Smile by three-fourths of a length to achieve this feat.

In the second supporting event of the day, the LRC stewards changed the riders of two horses after those taking part in the fifth race had already arrived at the starting point. By some error of judgement or sheer anxiety, the starter too signalled when the mare Armida could enter the box. As a result, she ran off the frame.

Stewards should take care to avoid such incidents and even if it becomes necessary to substitute riders, the process should be completed 10 minutes before the start of a race. Such incidents have been witnessed earlier as well but have so far gone unnoticed.
