KARACHI, Jan 1: The caretaker Sindh government has suggested to the Pakistan Election Commission to put off the Jan 8 elections till a suitable date after Muharram.

This recommendation has been made in a report sent to the EC in response to its queries following the large-scale destruction in 10 districts of the province in the wake of the assignation of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27.

The districts worst hit by the law and order situation are Qambar-Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Naushehroferoze, Nawabshah and Sukkur, where offices of returning officers, ballot boxes and other material were burnt down. Besides, telephone exchanges and trains were destroyed and chunks of railway tracks removed by miscreants after the PPP leader’s assassination.
