KARACHI, Jan 1: With the cold wave hitting the city, complaints of low gas pressure in various parts of the city are on the increase.

Housewives calling from Site, Baldia, New Karachi, Orangi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and F B Area said that pressure of gas would drop during morning and evening hours creating problems in preparing breakfast and supper.

General Manager (Distribution) of the Sui Southern Gas Company Sohail Warsi told PPI that the main reason behind the low pressure was the large-scale and unplanned commercial development in residential areas that had been affecting a smooth supply of gas to domestic consumers.

He said the SSGC had identified 15 locations, including Shershah, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, Police Headquarter Garden, Liaquatabad, Zamzama, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and North Karachi, where domestic consumers had been facing the problem of low gas pressure. He said that as soon as security situation in the city improved, these areas would be hooked up with nearest high-pressure line to get the problem resolved.

In reply to a question, he clarified that growing number of CNG stations had nothing to do with the low pressure problem. He said that new CNG stations had been given dedicated lines while the older ones connected to residential lines would also be disconcerted from the domestic users’ lines.

He advised citizens to lodge their complaints at 189.—PPI
