Karachi races put off

KARACHI, Dec 29: The weekly Gymkhana race meeting slated at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday has been postponed in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, says an official announcement.

The Karachi Race Club (KRC) management has already announced three-day mourning.

The next date of the races will be announced as the law and order situation improves, he added.

Meanwhile, rider Ghulam Shabbir II has won the ‘Best Jockey of the Year’ award. He accredited himself with 83 wins which includes five in the last meeting.

The ‘Best Trainer of the Year’ award went to Ehtisham Rizvi who partnered 55 winners.—AZ
