Ex-minister among 9 dead in blast

SWAT, Dec 28: Nine people, including the grandson of the former Wali of Swat, Asfandyar Amirzaib, were killed and several others injured in an explosion after a public meeting in Mingora on Friday.

Asfandyar Amirzaib, a former provincial minister and district Nazim, was contesting for a provincial assembly seat as a PML-Q candidate. According to police, as Asfandyar came out of the venue of public meeting, a powerful explosion took place killing him and the other eight people.

Police confirmed four deaths.

The dead included Manglore union council Nazim Bakht Mand Khan. It could not be confirmed whether it was a suicide bombing or the bomb had been triggered with a remote-control device.
