HYDERABAD, Dec 26: A group of sugarcane growers forced suspension of crushing in Mehran Sugar Mills in Tando Allahyar district on Wednesday.

The incident took place after the mill management refused to lift a particular variety of sugarcane for crushing for a specific period. The growers, who had cultivated that variety, forced their entry into the mills to compel the management to lift their cane for crushing after issuing indents.

According to district naib nazim Faizul Haq alias Sabir Kaimkhani, the mill management had told the growers that they would certainly lift their cane but after a period of around 40 to 45 days while growers maintained that their cane stood matured and is ready for crushing.

Some of the angry growers smashed windowpanes of mills, leading to suspension of crushing for around two hours. However, when the district naib nazim arrived there he held negotiations with the growers and persuaded them to let the mill management issue indent for lifting of their cane. Kaimkhani said that issue was settled amicably.

INJURED: The family of PPP candidate for PS-46, Fayyaz Ali Shah, met with a road accident on Super Highway near Nooriabad on Wednesday when their car overturned. They were returning from Karachi after receiving Fayyaz’s brother Irfan Shah who had returned from pilgrimage.

The injured included Fayyaz Ali Shah, his wife Shabana, mother Ghulam Fatima, kids Faiza Ali, Faiza, Gul Shah and brother Irfan Shah. They were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital and then to city branch of hospital.
