Change of scene in NA-144

Published December 27, 2007

OKARA, Dec 26: A PML-N aspirant Mian Yawar Zaman has announced becoming an active candidate against PML-Q’s Rao Sikandar Iqbal after the rejection of nomination papers of Arif Chaudhry, a PPP candidate for NA-144, by a full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday.

Arif Chaudhry has, however, announced approaching the Supreme Court of Pakistan against his disqualification by the LHC.

Though Yawar Zaman had filed his nomination papers both for NA-144 and PP-191, he was concentrating his electioneering for Punjab Assembly slot alone and was dormant for the National Assembly slot.

The rejection of Arif Chaudhry’s nomination papers has given Yawar Zaman a room to contest for the National Assembly slot along with Punjab Assembly slot.

Yawar Zaman and his father former state minister, Mian Zaman, who is PML-N’s district chapter president, want benefiting public resentment against Rao Skindar.

To a query, Yawar Zaman said that seat adjustments with the PPP would by decided by the PML-N central leadership only.
