QUETTA, Dec 25: The central convener of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), Mehmood Khan Achakzai, has hinted at launching a disobedience movement against President Pervez Musharraf’s government after elections.

Speaking at a meeting at Muslim Bagh here, Mr Achakzai said that the APDM supporters, lawyers, deposed judges and media would not accept the results of “fraud elections.” He urged the masses to stay away from polling booths on Jan 8 and apply all political means to foil poll process.

The APDM convener said although the army had removed former premiers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif’s governments, they were participating in the general elections.

He further said although the US and European countries claimed to be the champion of democracy, they supported dictatorship in the Muslim world, including Pakistan.

Dr Hayee Baloch, the chief of National Party, while speaking at the same meeting said that the “success” of the APDM meeting had proved that the people of Balochistan rejected the general election as they knew that without restoration of the deposed judges holding of free and fair elections was not possible.

He said that Baloch and the Pukhtuns never compromised on principle and always struggled against rulers who denied rights of the people. He said that it was a “joint struggle of both nations that forced the British rulers to leave their motherland.

“On January 8, the polling stations would present a deserted look in Balochistan as no one would turn up to vote.”
