Car crushes SI at picket

LAHORE, Dec 25: A sub-inspector of the Gulberg police was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle at a picket on Liberty Roundabout, Main Boulevard, on Tuesday.

Police said SI Sher Khan, 45, was present at the Liberty Roundabout picket along with other personnel when they signalled a recklessly-driven car.

The driver paid no heed to the signal and first hit the SI and then the barricade. He also managed to escape with the vehicle despite the presence of police mobile.

The SI, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the Services Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sher Khan was a resident of Kot Momin, Sargodha, and was transferred to Gulberg from the Rang Mahal police station a few days back.

Gulberg SHO Faisal Sharif said the police could not trace the car.

Ironically, the purpose of the picket also failed as the accused driver managed to escape from the scene.

Model Town division police high-ups are in the habit of erecting ill-planned pickets on Gulberg’s Main Boulevard at four points which are not only dangerous for motorists but also for the policemen.

These pickets, specially at Fountain No 1, near the Main Market and the Liberty Roundabout — disturb traffic flow and create a traffic mess.

Traffic police, it is learnt, have already warned the Model Town officers to avoid setting up pickets on such points.

FIVE INJURED: Four people were injured when a pickup overturned on the Motorway, one kilometre from Thokar Niaz Beg.

The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital.

THEFT: Irfan was deprived of $4,400 in a hotel in Qilla Gujjar Singh area. A car was lifted from Nawankot.
