KHAR, Dec 25: Electioneering for two National Assembly seats of Bajaur Agency is gaining momentum.

The contestants on being assured of a peaceful environment on the polling day by the local Taliban and the political administration have launched a fully-fledged election campaign.

They are visiting far-flung areas of the agency, holding corner meetings and going from door-to-door to win support of the voters.

The candidates have announced that they would bring tribal areas on a par with the developed areas of the country. They have opened their election offices and put up posters, hoardings and banners at trade centres and other places.

A total of 18 candidates are in the run for two National Assembly seats, NA-43 and NA-44. According to the Election Commission, 255,000 people of the area are eligible to cast vote in the Jan 8 polls.

The political administration of the Bajaur Agency has held out an assurance that it would extend full cooperation to the Election Commission for holding the polls in a free and fair manner.—Correspondent
