LAHORE, April 1: Pakistan’s consulate in the UAE has refused to renew Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s passport despite completion of all formalities, a PPP leader alleged on Monday.

Mr Munir Ahmed Khan said in a press statement that the consulate informed the applicant that the federal government had not given its clearance.

Begum Bhutto, widow of the late prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and mother of PPP chairman and ex-premier Benazir Bhutto, had applied for the renewal of the passport on Feb 6.

Mr Khan has written letters to various world leaders, urging them to use their influence with the Pakistan government to have the passport issued. — Staff Reporter
