LAHORE, April 1: PML-QA leaders from Lahore at a meeting here on Monday discussed the impact of the new constituencies for their candidates and decided to file appeals where there were major changes.

They would meet again with maps of all constituencies before deciding on challenging the new demarcations. In case the change is minor, the new constituency will be accepted, otherwise appeals will be filed on the advice of the leaders of the area, a participant said after the meeting.

Mian Azhar presided over the meeting in which all important leaders were present.

A decision on appeals will be taken by April 6.

Provincial presidents of the party are carrying out similar exercise in their respective provinces, party sources said.

Meanwhile, PML-QA President Mian Azhar alleged on Monday that the opponents of the referendum wanted to wriggle out of the elections due to be held in October.

In a press statement, he said the anti-referendum elements were aware that in the case of elections, people would hold them accountable for the alleged plunder they were involved in.

Justifying the pro-referendum stand of the PML-QA, Mian Azhar said this was aimed at ensuring the restoration of democratic order. He said there was a dire need for the country to come back on the democratic track.

Making an obvious reference to leaders of the rival PML-N group who are opposed to the referendum, Mian Azhar said they should let the nation know on what basis had they supported the referendum held by the late Gen Zia in 1984.

Such people, he said, should not avenge the country for their deprivation and despondency. He believed that the system to be restored to the country would be democratic and not dictatorship.

The PML-QA chief called upon the government to take urgent steps to give relief to the common man and bring down utility bills.
