TIMERGARA, Dec 20: The members of the Timergara District Bar Association have appealed to all political parties to boycott the general election. They warned that lawyers would not vote for political parties if they did not heed their call.

The general-secretary of the association, Jehan Bahadar, said on Thursday that a majority of the candidates of Lower Dir who belonged to the legal community had withdrawn their nomination papers to express solidarity with the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Those who withdrew their papers included Muhammad Rashid, a PML-N candidate for NA-34, Jehan Bahadar for PF-94, Farooq Iqbal for PF-96 and Sayed Ahmad Shah for PF-96, he said.

Mr Bahadar said that free, fair and transparent elections under Musharraf’s regime were not possible and the political parties taking part in it would realise soon that they were wrong in so doing.
