MIRPURKHAS, Dec 18: Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto has announced that her party will re-initiate work on projects like Keti Bandar port, Thar coal and small dams which were abandoned by previous governments.

Addressing a public meeting at Gama Stadium here on Tuesday, she said that after coming into power, the PPP government would also implement the 1991 Water accord to help tail-end growers to irrigate their land.

Ms Bhutto regretted that because of wrong policies of successive governments, the Indus was drying up, terrorist activities were increasing in Balochistan, Swat and tribal areas and sectarian tension mounting in the Northern Areas. She said that suicide attacks have started taking place in Punjab.

She pledged to carry out the remodelling of the Nara canal and Makhi Farash canal.

The former prime minister announced that a tourist spot would be developed at Umerkot, the birthplace of Mughal emperor Akbar.

She said the PPP waged a struggle for the rights of the downtrodden, but anti-PPP forces established the PML-Q which gave the nation the ‘gift’ of lawlessness, terrorism, price hike and unemployment.

Ms Bhutto said that most of the employed people were finding it difficult to make both ends meet.

She said that January 8 would be the day of success for labourers, farmers and the poor and the PPP would emerge victorious. She the huge public meeting proved that PPP was the only popular party.She announced that monuments would be built for those who had lost their lives in the Karsaz carnage.
