LAHORE, Dec 18: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Dr Nasim Ashraf, while refusing to comment on the decision of an Indian arbitration court, which has reportedly issued a stay order against Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf not to play for the Indian Premier League (IPL) for breaching a similar agreement with the Indian Cricket League (ICL), said the case was related to the BCCI — the pioneer of the IPL.

“Although I have no latest information about Yousuf’s case, hopefully the IPL will take up the case, if there is any such decision,” the PCB chief told Dawn.

Yousuf, who joined the ICL after being dropped from the inaugural World Twenty20 squad earlier this year, had later changed his mind on PCB’s pursuance. Later, the PCB, while accepting the BCCI idea of introducing the IPL, allowed seven Pakistani players, including Yousuf, to join it. But the ICL, after sending a legal notice to Yousuf later, moved to the Indian arbitration court.

Yousuf is Pakistan’s ace batsman and taking national interest into consideration, the PCB managed to convince him to rejoin Pakistan cricket, the chairman, who had earlier threatened life bans on players joining the ICL, said.

Other Pakistan players who have signed up with the ICL and have represented various teams at a Twenty20 event there are Inzamam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, Shabbir Ahmed, Taufiq Umar and Imran Farhat.

Meanwhile, Dr Nasim said that the sub-committee of the newly formed governing board of the PCB would be announced in the next couple of days.

“The process to make nominations for different sub-committees has almost been completed and the names will be announced in the next two days,” he stated.

The decision to form sub-committees to run the affairs of the Governing Board was taken at its first meeting held in Lahore on Nov 9.

All 15 members of the Governing Board are likely to form different committees as no person is likely to be included from outside.
