PESHAWAR, Oct 22: Assembly for Peace and National Unity of Afghanistan (APNUA), an umbrella organization of seven splinter Afghan opposition groups and former Jehadi commanders, will hold a two-day conference (Wednesday and Thursday) in Peshawar to discuss Afghanistan’s current situation.

The conference, to be held at Nishter Hall, Peshawar will discuss the latest situation arising out of the US strikes, timeframe for convening the traditional Loya Jirga and the future national broad-based government, probably led by the exiled king Zahir Shah for a transitory period.

The APUNA, headed by Pir Syed Ahmad Gillani has sent out invitations to Afghans living in and outside Afghanistan including former king Zahir Shah, opposition Northern Alliance, Taliban, notables, members of the state and provincial councils.

Neighbouring and western countries’ diplomats in Islamabad are also expected to attend the two-day moot.

Pir Gillani, who rushed to Rome a few days back for consultation, returned to Peshawar on Sunday night from London. Previously, the conference was scheduled for Oct 21, but it will now be held on Oct 24.
