KARACHI, Dec 17: The caretaker Sindh Minister for Finance and Information, Dewan Muhammad Yousaf Farooqui, on Monday directed all the relevant officials to ensure sale of flour in the city at the official rates.

The minister said that 41,000 metric tons of wheat was being supplied to the city flour mills within 15 days, which was 20 per cent more as compared to their allotted quota.

Mr Farooqui said that there were around 70 flour mills in the city. “All the mills have been directed to establish at least two stalls, one within the limits of the mills and the other outside, to sell flour at the rates prescribed by the government,” he said.

The minister said that the government was making all-out efforts to ensure availability of flour at Rs16 per kg. He said that all the DCOs in the province had been directed to ensure flour sale at the official rates in their respective areas.

He said that the government was striving to provide all basic facilities of life to the people on a priority basis.

“There is no wheat shortage in the government godowns as it has taken all timely and necessary steps for a smooth distribution of wheat. However, some hoarders are trying to create wheat and flour shortages against which the government will take a stern action”, he added.—PPI
