LONDON, Dec 15: London will stage the 2011 world badminton championships, the Badminton World Federation announced in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Badminton England Chief Executive Adrian Christy, who helped made the final bid presentation to the BWF Council, said: “This is great news for badminton fans throughout Britain and just what the sport needs as we aim to raise its profile in the countdown to the London Olympics.”

Britain last staged the biennial world championships in 2003 when Birmingham was the host. This year’s tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur in August.
