PESHAWAR, Dec 14: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad would lead an anti-election rally on Saturday and withdraw his nomination papers along with other party candidates from the NWFP and tribal areas.

Party sources said that the JI chief would be brought in a vehicular procession from Khairabad to Nowshera where he would withdraw his nomination papers from the returning officer office. Qazi Hussain had filed papers from NA-5, Nowshera.

The sources said that the JI had fielded 31 candidates for the National Assembly seats and 38 for the NWFP assembly seats. The party had also allotted tickets for NA seats in the tribal areas.

Former MNAs and the JI’s nominees, Shabir Ahmad Khan and Sabir Hussain Awan, for NA-1 and NA-4, Peshawar, respectively, would also withdraw their nominations papers on Saturday.

After withdrawal of papers, the sources said, the JI chief would address a public meeting at Taro Jaba in Nowshera.

The sources said the party had displayed banners in different parts of Peshawar, appealing the people to boycott the elections.
