GUJRANWALA, March 31: Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested a proclaimed offender after an encounter in Wahando while his two accomplices escaped.

On a tip-off that member of a gang of proclaimed offenders were present at an outhouse, a police party raided there. The POs opened fire on police who retaliated.

Later, police arrested an accused identified as Rahmat Ali while his two accomplices escaped.

Police claimed that Rahmat was wanted in dozen of dacoity, robbery and other cases.

A case has been registered against him.

DELIMITATION OPPOSED: Local leaders of political and religious parties have expressed their dissatisfaction over the new delimitation of constituencies.

Terming the plan as unrealistic and illogical, they demanded that a national commission should be established to review the new delimitation of constituencies.

Speaking at a meeting here on Sunday PML-N’s Ghulam Dastagir Khan, Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, PPP’s Chaudhry Abdullah Virk, Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Mian Azhar Hassan and Jamaat-i-Islami’s district Amir Maulana Obaid-ur-Rehman Madni said that the new delimitation plan was not acceptable.

They also rejected the referendum plan of President Pervez Musharraf and demanded that the proposal should be dropped.
