KARACHI, March 30: After a lull of nearly two weeks horseracing begins again with the Winter Gymkhana Meeting getting under way Sunday afternoon at the Karachi Race Course.

Six events have been carded on the racing programme, with the first five to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs and the concluding event to be run over six furlongs.

The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.

In the opener with only seven runners in contention, the bay Prism Of Life owned Mrs. Zain Younus, is fancied to get the better of Smart Boy.

True, Prism Of Life produced very disappointing runs in his last three starts, but the bay has been working well in the morning exercises and with a good lad astride should win the race with relative ease.

In the next event 14 runners will line up at the starting stalls. Of the lot Ever Green, the late Crorepati, finishing third behind Royal Wisdom and Sajan Black two weeks ago, should win the second event for the mere asking.

The chestnut gelding will by challenged throughout the race by another chestnut Powerful Tarzan and Law Of Nature.

In the third race of the afternoon, the four-year-old bay filly Noor-un-Nisa is in a class of her own in this company and seems on course to post another victory for her owner with Zabyan and Mark battling it out for the second spot in a big field, with 16 runners vying for the top honours.

The next event with 18 runners in contention, seems to be reserved for the three-year-old bay colt Wonder Thunder, although the speedy bay mare Guarantee and Satellite Star will be constant thorns in the side of Wonder Thunder throughout the five furlong sprint.

The fifth race also has a big field of 18 runners and Fly To The Sky is fancied to pick up the spoils from Lover’s Life and Lucky One.

The four-year-old bay filly Shab-e-Noor should ring down the curtain with another victory, chased all the way to the winning post by Sapno Ki Rani and Ray Of Light.
