JAMMU, March 30: Four Indian soldiers and six others were killed and 20 wounded on Saturday in a grenade and gun attack near a temple in occupied Jammu.

Police alleged a group of Kashmiri freedom fighters hurled a grenade in the city’s main trading centre of Raghunath Bazar near a famous temple of Ram.

The Mujahideen then opened fire with automatic weapons in a bid to enter the temple, police said, adding Indian forces had fired at the Mujahideen.

“Four (Indian) security force personnel, four civilians and two suspected militants were killed. Another 20 people, mostly civilians, were wounded in the attack,” a police official said.

“Security forces have cordoned the temple and the adjacent area and launched a massive search to nab the third militant who is believed to be hiding in the vicinity,” the official said.

The temple premises was littered with empty cartridges and there were blood stains on the floor. Shops and businesses in occupied Jammu were shut following the incident.

The wounssded, some of them in serious condition, were admitted to hospital, police said.—Reuters
